HOW MANY ROOMS & BEDS DOES THE HOUSE HAVE?

Casa Cedar has 20 beds in 7 bedrooms: 1 Single Room, 1 Double (2 beds), 3 Triples (3 beds per room), and 2 Quads (4 beds per room).

Thus, the entire house can accommodate as many as 20 residents.

WHAT KIND OF FURNITURE IS PROVIDED?

All bedrooms have a bed, desk, dresser and closet/wardrobe space for all residents. Some rooms have private closets and some have shared closets/wardrobes. We also provide every resident with both a desk lamp and a clip-on night reading lamp for their bed, all with energy-efficent LED light bulbs! The Triple and Quad Rooms all have twin sized beds. The Double Room has one full and one twin, and the Single has a full size bed. All common spaces are fully furnished as well, including the living/dining room and back deck.

CAN THE HOUSE BE CUSTOM CONFIGURED AND FURNITURE ADJUSTED?

YES! We can change any or all furniture or room layouts as needed, just ask us.

MEAL PLANNING & OUR GOURMET KITCHEN

Casa Cedar has a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook, featuring: three refrigerators, dishwasher, all appliances, tea kettle, coffee maker, reverse osmosis filtered water, pots, pans, glasses, bowls, plates, and utensils.

Residents prepare their own food and often collaborate to cook together and share meals. Amazing grocery stores in the Gourmet Ghetto are literally 1 block from the house, and there are also many affordable restaurants a short walk from the house!

Optionally, residents may purchase a meal plan from Cal's Dining Halls and eat on campus. (Casa Cedar does not provide meals.)

 

LINENS AND BEDDING

We provide sheets, blankets, pillows, and bath towels if you need them at no additional charge.

WE'RE A GREAT PLACE FOR STUDYING AND WORKING AT HOME!

Casa Cedar is the ideal house if you need to get studying and work done. The house has a living room that's the perfect study lounge, and we're located in a fairly quiet, low-key Northside neighborhood.

IS CASA CEDAR A GOOD PLACE FOR PEOPLE WHO GO TO SAN FRANCISCO OR OAKLAND, ETC.?

Yes! Given how close we are to BART and AC Transit, we're a perfect place to live if you are commuting to or visiting San Francisco, downtown Oakland, Richmond, Emeryville, El Cerrito, Fremont, etc.
 

LIVING TOGETHER AS A RESPECTFUL HOUSEHOLD

Everyone lives together as a single, respectful Household. You will ensure that the house is respectful of our neighbors (no disturbances or loud noises at night), and you will generally be good citizens in our beloved Northside neighborhood.

We have previously hosted a wide range of undergrads and grads, Internationals & Americans, females and males, visiting scholars, interns, and young professionals.

YES and YES! We host BOTH individuals AND groups.

PROMPT & PROFESSIONAL REPAIRS

Casa Cedar Management conducts any needed on-site repairs in a prompt, professional manner.

IS THERE A DEADLINE TO ACCEPT A HOUSING OFFER?

Once we send you a Residency Agreement, we suggest you sign and return the agreement right away, because demand is currently very high. We may indicate a deadline in your housing offer. You must both sign the agreement and make your prepayment to secure your space.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I BRING?​

Just your personal basic stuff. ;) The members of your group do not need to bring any furniture, kitchen appliances, bedding, sheets, or bath towels, as we provide it all! We recommend one suitcase per resident in general as a guideline. Before you arrive, we will give you more detailed orientation suggestions and help.

 

NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY

Casa Cedar is located in super safe North Berkeley. If you're looking for the safest possible neighborhood that's a short walk to campus, our location is ideal! PROFESSIONAL HOUSE CLEANING

Casa Cedar provides a professional housekeeper who will clean the house common areas two to three days per week, and/or on a schedule as requested by your group. Our housekeeper is awesome and when she's done a day of cleaning, Casa Cedar is the cleanest student house you've ever seen!

LAUNDRY MACHINES ON SITE - NO COINS!

We provide a FREE washer and dryer. No coins needed!

ABUNDANT HOT WATER

We have fantastic always-on hot water 24/7!

SHARED KITCHEN CHORES

All household members contribute one hour per person per week to help keep the kitchen clean. This is a fairly low level of cleaning commitment and helps keep the kitchen clean at times when our professional housecleaner isn't here (she comes 2 to 3 days per week). If you prefer not to do a kitchen chore you can pay extra and we will do it for you. If you are part of a group renting the entire house you can of course choose for yourself how to structure chores.

BIKE PARKING

We have a bike shed available as well as a fence where you can safely lock your bike. Yay cycling!

CAR PARKING

Street parking: You can purchase an annual parking permit from the City of Berkeley at a very low cost. Street parking is abundant and easy to find in our neighborhood, unlike other areas of Berkeley where parking is a nightmare. Also, our street has no street sweeping which means you don't have to worry about getting ticketed ever. Street parking is free on Saturdays & Sundays which means you'll only need the permit if you are parking weekdays for more than 2 hours at a time.

Driveway: We also have a driveway available which can be shared with our staff. Please ask our House Manager for driveway access.

NO INTOXICATION, NO UNDERAGE DRINKING, NO SUBSTANCE USE

We don't permit intoxication, underage drinking, or substance use. Thank you!

NO SMOKING, NO VAPING

No smoking or vaping anywhere on the property. No smokers or vapers allowed to live at the house, not even occasional smokers or vapers. Thank you!

 

NO PETS/ANIMALS

No pets or animals are allowed at Casa Cedar. Thank you!
